ENHANCEMENT OF HISTORICAL SCIENTIFIC TOOLS FOR KNOWLEDGE AND TEACHING

The project Va3SCoDi arises from the need to enhance the heritage of historical scientific collections housed in several locations of the University of Pisa, starting with the one located at the main entrance of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Pisa.

The main goal of this project is to catalog all the historical scientific instruments, historical documents and glassware, as well as the reagents’ collection held in the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry that possess historical and technical-scientific value, and to make them accessible to the public.
In particular, part of this culturally, historically, and scientifically rich and interesting collection concerns an area of chemistry and physics called spectroscopy and it is linked to prominent figures in the history of science in Pisa, such as Raffaele Nasini and Camillo Porlezza.
The project includes a first step of study and research aimed at identifying common threads and potential thematic paths connecting the instruments hosted in the partner museums, in order to highlight their history, technical-scientific development, cultural impact, and educational role.
Currently, many of these resources are scattered across different locations, unconnected to each other, and are often not visible or accessible, not only to the general public but also, to some extent, to professionals, scholars, and researchers interested in these fields of study.

One of the project's objectives, therefore, is to make this vast cultural, historical, and scientific heritage accessible and usable through various actions that will be object of the present web-site.

The enhancement of historical scientific instruments and the accessibility of these resources must also consider today’s digital tools, including the dissemination of custom-made digital content via websites, as well as the creation of products that combine historical, scientific, and cultural aspects with the potential of media and digital technologies.
For this very purpose, this website will be periodically updated to share the project's progress and, above all, to spark the curiosity of visitors and draw them closer to the beauty of these collections.
